Basketball Lakers Kobe Bryant Basketball News Basketball Rules History of Basketball Celtics NBAPublished: March 10, 2009
This season has been a season of superlatives for the Big East with many teams winning at a record clip. This should make the 2009 Big East tournament one of the best in recent memory. It also makes the job of picking the winners a bit tougher, but I am going to work my way through as tough as possible. Here is the 2009 Big East Tournament schedule along with my first and second round predictions.
FIRST ROUND
Tuesday, March 10
Game 1: No. 9 Cincinnati vs. No. 16 DePaul, noon
This is going to be a match up that might end up being more competitive than you would expect. DePaul is capable of beating the Bearcats, but I expect that Cincinnati will not let that happen. The Bearcats will move on.
Game 2: No. 12 Georgetown vs. No. 13 St. John’s, 2 p.m.
The Hoyas are certainly feeling like they have something to prove and they really need this win. St. Johns is not likely to roll over, but they will eventually lose to the Hoyas in a close one.
Game 3: No. 10 Notre Dame vs. No. 15 Rutgers, 7 p.m.
The Irish should have had a much better season than they did, and they hope to make up for it in this Big East Tournament. Expect the Irish to take out Rutgers in a big way.
Game 4: No. 11 Seton Hall vs. No. 14 South Florida, 9 p.m.
This is the one upset I see coming on day one. South Florida matches up fairly well with Seton Hall and might give them fits. I pick South Florida to spring the first Big East upset of the tournament.
Here is the rest of the 2009 Big East schedule: Be sure to check back for predictions on these games after round one games are complete.
