Every year seems the same when it comes to the Men’s ACC basketball tournament. The teams that should win usually do, and the finals are painted in different shades of blue from two schools only miles apart. Duke and Carolina are once again huge favorites to take the ACC Men’s Basketball Tournament. What about the others, though? Who else from the powerful ACC could slide in and upset one of the big two? Who is most likely to do so? Here is a look at a few ACC teams that have a chance to make some noise in the Men’s ACC basketball tournament for 2009:

Wake Forest Demon Deacons – The Deacons have a team that is capable of beating anybody in the nation and to start the season, that is exactly what they did. After a huge run of sixteen straight wins to start the year, the Deacons then began to falter as they entered the meat of the ACC schedule. Still, they have maintained a lofty national ranking and respect, and continue to win at a strong clip. Up and down is the name of the game with the Deacons, and it really just depends on which end of the meter they are at during the tournament. If they get hot, they can certainly take one of the slots from the big two.

Clemson Tigers – The Tigers are a team that is really hard to figure out. They look like showstoppers one minute, and terrible the next. The majority of the time they have been on the good side of that argument, as their record clearly shows. The problem is, they can not seem to string together victories against quality opponents. Ironically, this is exactly what they have to do to win the ACC tournament, as well as the NCAA tournament that looms.

Florida St – The Seminoles are in the middle of a horrible scandal at the school due to academic cheating, and have been levied sanctions by the NCAA. It is a shame as the Seminole basketball team is enjoying one of the best years in their history. They have the athletes and a magical air about them when they take the court. They think they can beat anyone, and are never intimidated. It really is a shame that the scandal will likely ruin their chances by putting the attention elsewhere regardless.

Boston College Eagles – Scrappy. That is the word that best describes the Boston College Eagles. They simply will not give up regardless of the giant in front of them. They have talent, make no mistake about that. The difference with the Eagles though, is that they are not very deep. That does not stop them from going toe to toe with the best in the land, and coming out ahead quite often. See Carolina and Duke this season for a reference and qualifier for that statement.
