The North Carolina Tar Heels are the most decorated college basketball team of all time. Their is a long line of former players that have gone on to huge NBA success. Trying to narrow down a list of former Tar Heels to the top five of all time is difficult, as their were so many that have made huge impacts at the school. After careful consideration, and many debates among colleagues, I have narrowed down the top five Tar Heel Basketball players of all time.

1. Michael Jordan – His airness is quite simply the best basketball player who ever lived. Not many people would argue with him topping this or any other list that is related to baskeball greatness. For the moment he hit that shot to win the championship over Georgetown, he has captivated and excited us like no other. Michael Jordan is basketball.

2. Vince Carter – Vince is one of those players that you quite simply could not take your eyes off of. The moment that you looked away, you missed a highlight reel dunk, or incredible layin. The excitement level when Vince is on the floor is always a few notches higher, and that is what makes for a great basketball experience.

3. Antawn Jamison – Jamison is the workhorse that every team wishes that they had. The big thing about Jamison, is that he is skilled in every area. That versatility is what sets him apart from other hustle type players. He is no one or two category specialist. He contributes in every area, including scoring the rock. Jamison is one of the greats of all time.

4. Phil Ford – This guy was lightening in a bottle. I watched Phil Ford as a young fan, and I can tell you that nobody ran an offense like Phil Ford. He was one of the players that helped to define the point guard position. He was the ultimate quarterback on the floor, and an innovative player who could score with anybody.

5. James Worthy – Mr. Worthy makes the list primarily due to the fact that he was as dominant as college player as you will ever see. During his run, he was a man among boys…literally. He never seemed to be a young college guy. He always had a maturity to his game that exceeded his years. That put him ahead of the competition, and the rest of his peers on a nightly basis on the floor. James Worthy was the best college player I ever saw. Including Michael Jordan.
