The time has finally come. Michael Jordan, thought by many to be the greatest player in the history of basketball, is headed for the Hall of Fame. Technically of course, he has not been guaranteed entry. If ever a player was a lock for entry it would be Michael Jordan. Jordan was named along with sixteen others as finalists for enshrinement in the Hall of Fame in September. The official announcement will be made in April at the Final Four of College Basketball.
Not only was Michael named, but three other NBA legends that are largely considered to be locks were as well. Along with his Airness, David Robinson, John Stockton, and Chris Mullin were named. Each of these players are Hall caliber players, and should be admitted when the announcement comes in April. The rest of the list includes Don Nelson, Jerry Sloan, C. Vivian Stringer, Dennis Johnson, Bernard King, Cynthia Cooper, Al Attles, Bob Hurley Sr., Vladimir Kondrashin, Pereira “Ubiratan” Maciel, Richie Guerin, and Johnny “Red” Kerr.
While all of these stars are decent odds on favorites to be in the Hall, Jordan is surely the crown jewel of this class. This man dominated basketball in a way that few men ever have in any sport. Jordan won championship after championship with the Bulls and is an NBA legend even on today’s playgrounds. The thing that set Jordan apart was the way in which he did it.
Jordan always had a flair for the dramatic, and it began early in his basketball career. In his freshman season at the University of North Carolina, he sent the Heels to a National Championship against Pat Ewing and the Georgetown Hoyas with a last second jump shot to secure the win. From there, Jordan went on to hit buzzer beater after buzzer beater on even the largest stage…The NBA Finals.
Along the way, he secured every award the NBA offers, and gained the nickname “Air” Jordan. That iconic name has generated billions and still is the source of magic that pushes the NBA. Today’s stars were largely influenced and taught those jaw dropping slam dunks by the man that brought the game of basketball into the future. Jordan produced dunks in game that few could do even out of game.
Nobody entertained us like the man named Michael Jordan, and the Hall is ready. I just hope it is big enough to capture the greatness of this NBA legend. They are going to need a larger wing…..
